What skincare products do you need for your face?

When it comes to skincare, the face is one of the most talked-about areas. That's because our face represents us in a certain way. Our faces are never invisible and not protected by clothing neither. So taking care of the skin on your face is important. But what kind of products do you have to use? And do you have to use skincare products at all?

Table of Contents

Water as a cleanser

If we ask our in-house dermatologists about using skincare products for the face, the answer we receive is always the same: just use water. Water has the ability to clean our skin and reinforce it as well. It’s full of important elements that the skin needs to get clean, and also to power itself for outside factors – like the weather and the environment you are in.

So water may be your solution. Use (not too cold) water in the morning after you wake up. And in the evening before you go to sleep. If you use makeup, make sure to remove all makeup before cleansing with water.

Cleansing products

But what if water does not cut it for you? If you have really sensitive or dry skin for example – it might be needed to provide some extra care to your face to keep the skin healthy and good-looking. Then cleansing products could be your answer.

This will be a process of trial and error. There are a lot of cleansers out there and we will (or can) not advise you on certain brands or products. The best thing to do is to talk to a local expert in a shop near you and have him or she explains the different options based on your specific skin type. What is important is to choose something that is not too aggressive – especially if you are dealing with dry or sensitive skin. If your skin is dry, don’t use anything with alcohol or fragrance. If it’s sensitive, see if you can find a cleanser without chemicals.

Always make sure to rinse with (warm) water after using these products to clean your face completely.

Sunscreen with SPF of 30

Sunscreen products are not too common in daily skincare routines but dermatologists urge to change that. As the sun is very nice and can be enjoyed – but it’s also the number one cause of skin cancer and will damage your skin, even if you cannot see it from the outside directly. Sunburns will damage your skin now but also in the long-term, causing early aging and wrinkles. And who needs that?

Sunscreen will protect your skin from harmful UV-rays throughout the day. Also if the sky is not clear and blue, these UV-rays will reach your skin – so don’t let the clouds fool you. It’s important to remember than sunscreen will effectively work for a few hours – so reapplying a few times a day is smart.

Checking for abnormalities

Taking good care of your skin also means that you look for any abnormalities on a regular basis to make sure that your skin stays healthy. With the SkinVision program, you can perform self-checks to detect any signs of risk. Downloading the app is the first step. Take a photo of any skin spot you feel uncomfortable about.
